Our Year 6 students had a great day visiting the Houses Of Parliament on Monday (22 June 2015).
Accompanied by our Chair of Governors, Mr Edward Oakley, who gave the children the benefit of his insight and knowledge throughout the trip, the children had a guided tour through Westminster Hall, St Stephens Hall, The House of Lords and the House of Commons.
The students were struck by the beautiful architecture, amazing frescoes and paintings of British Monarchs, and the beautiful gold leaf decor.
After the tour the children engaged in a question and answer session with the Right Honourable Michael Fallon MP for Sevenoaks, and Secretary of State for Defence. The students enjoyed this very much, sitting in the seats usually used by committee members when debating parliamentary matters.
By all accounts, Mr Fallon was very impressed by the calibre of the Steephill pupils questions and their informed responses to his questions.
The group also saw Ms Kelly Tolhurst, newly elected Member of Parliament for Rochester, who was about to give her first speech to the Commons on the Education and Adoption Bill.
A busy, educational and thoroughly enjoyable day out for our Year 6 students!
