The school was founded in 1935 by Miss Eileen Bignold who established its excellent reputation for high academic standards. These have been continued by a Board of Governors of the Educational Trust which was formed in 1990 to run the School.

Steephill is an independent day school which takes pupils from 3½ to 11 years old. It is situated in the beautiful Fawkham Valley area in a quiet lane overlooking the 13th century village church.

Steephill has pleasant grounds, mostly lawn and an integrated orchard. The children have a large sports field for football, athletics, cricket, hockey, netball and rounders. Short tennis and netball are played on the purpose built court.
