The Arts

Music is at the heart of everyday life at Steephill School, inspiring creativity, confidence and a love of performance. We place a strong emphasis on the arts, with music and art taught as part of the weekly curriculum. Every pupil benefits from regular performance opportunities, both in lessons and in public showcases. Pupils in the upper school attend weekly choir sessions led by our instrumental specialist, as well as weekly instrumental lessons. We also offer individual or group peripatetic lessons for piano, guitar and keyboard.

Our curriculum offer is further enriched through our extended programme, which includes LAMDA and our Musical Theatre Club.

Core areas of study include singing, listening and appraising, composing and improvising and instrumental performance. These are built cumulatively throughout the curriculum to ensure that all pupils develop their engagement with, and knowledge of, music over time.

Performances

We take part in many festivals including the Maidstone Festival, Bromley Festival and the Fawkham Village Fête. Even our youngest pupils in the pre-school and Reception visit a local residential care home to perform for members of our community. Past productions have included Revolting Children, The Wizard of Oz and The Lion King. Each Spring Term, we hold the annual Steephill Showcase, a highlight of the school calendar where KS2 pupils perform, sharing their talents and celebrating our future musicians.

"We get lots of opportunities to perform at Steephill. Every time I step on stage, I feel more confident."

Steephill Choirs at the Maidstone Festival – 29th November 2025

We are delighted to announce that our talented Steephill School choirs will be performing at the Maidstone Festival on Friday 29th November. This exciting event is a wonderful opportunity for our pupils to showcase their voices, share their love of music, and represent Steephill with pride.

At Steephill, we believe that music plays a vital role in building confidence, creativity, and community. Through choir, our children learn the joy of performing together, develop self-belief, and experience the thrill of sharing their music beyond the classroom.

Taking part in the Maidstone Festival extends and enriches our curriculum offer, giving pupils the chance to perform in a professional setting, celebrate their achievements, and create memories that will last a lifetime.

We couldn’t be prouder of our young singers and can’t wait to see them shine on stage!
