Humanities

At Steephill, Humanities is introduced from KS1 through weekly sessions and enriched by hands‑on exploration of the natural environment. Pupils in Early Years explore humanities through hands-on, practical experiences in the provision.

Geography

Geography is the study of where places are found, what they are like and the relationships between people and their environments.

CUSP Geography Curriculum

We aim for every pupil to become an inquisitive geographer who understands the physical and human processes shaping our world, beginning with a deep connection to their own locality in Longfield. By Year 6, children will confidently investigate the rolling North Downs, map the flow of the River Darent, explore how transport links (M2, A2, rail) have shaped settlement, and compare their home community to contrasting places globally.

History

In history, we aim for all pupils to nurture curiosity and be critical thinkers who understand how the past shapes the present and future. Pupils are encouraged to explore historical contexts deeply, ask thoughtful questions and analyse sources to form their own interpretations. The curriculum aims to build chronological awareness, foster empathy through diverse narratives and promote cultural understanding by including global and local histories. Through reflective learning, history at Steephill is a dynamic lens for pupils to engage with moral dilemmas, societal change and their own place in the world.

As our doors opened in 1935, many members of our community have a deep connection with WWII, which we explore in depth in year 6. We are fortunate to have visitors who provide authentic stories from the time, providing a rich knowledge of the period.

It was my great pleasure to give a talk to Y6 yesterday and to meet you. The children were attentive, inquisitive and delightful, throughout.
