Enhancement

At Steephill, we pride ourselves on bringing our curriculum to life through a variety of means, such as enhancement weeks, outdoor learning and rich hands‑on experiences that deepen children’s understanding of the world around them. We aim to create meaningful opportunities for pupils to explore, question and apply their learning in real‑life contexts, helping them to develop curiosity, confidence and a genuine love of learning.
Enhancement Week
At the beginning of each term, our enhancement week immerses the children into the curriculum and global focus. This academic year, we selected the theme ‘oceans’ and prioritised UN Goals 3: Climate Action and Goal 14: Life Below Water.
To begin the spring term, we were visited by a member of the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation who delivered a variety of sessions, from habitats around the world to saving farmers' livestock with ‘lions with light.’
They were delightful children. So well behaved, polite and enthusiastic. It was a pleasure to visit your school.
Immersive learning experiences
Alongside our enhancement weeks, we hold various themed days to immerse our children into their learning and bring it to life. These memorable experiences allow our children to deepen their knowledge of key content areas and engage with our local community.
WWII Immersive Day (Year 6)
Turing Class stepped back in time to World War II for a day, experiencing life as evacuee children. They explored air‑raid shelters, baked carrot cookies, re‑enacted wartime propaganda and wrote letters home, helping them empathise with the children of the era and understand what life was really like.

Knole House (Stone Age Experience)
Rashford class created a timeline of key events in history, ending with the earliest parts of the Stone Age to see just how far back it goes. As they explored what people ate during that time, they even milled their own grains using stone tools and later created Stone Age–inspired art with natural materials.
