Our Steephill Community

Being part of the Steephill community means supporting others - both within our school and beyond it.

Houses and Team Spirit

Within school, every pupil and member of staff belongs to one of our three Houses: Bignold, Ford, and Francis. House Captains, alongside their dedicated adult teams, hold regular meetings to promote teamwork, leadership and mutual support. Each House works towards a shared United Nations learning goal designed to enhance outcomes for all.
House points are collected weekly to celebrate pupils who demonstrate our KIND school values and are proudly shared during our Friday Celebration Assembly. Our House system also brings out the best in friendly competition - from academic challenges to Sports Day events, where children cheer one another on and celebrate each other’s successes.

Celebrating Role Models

Each of our classes is named after a notable British icon, providing pupils with inspiring role models from a broad range of backgrounds and fields. Together, these figures represent the values of determination, creativity, and kindness that we foster at Steephill.

A Nurturing School Family

Our school community comes together daily for assembly, where we celebrate birthdays, positive behaviour, excellent work, and achievements both in and out of school. Every child is recognised and valued as an important part of our Steephill family.

Supporting Our Wider Community

Charitable giving and community service are integral to life at Steephill. Pupils regularly collect donations for the Community Cupboard food bank and have the opportunity to visit and see the impact of their generosity first-hand.

Our parents play a vital role in strengthening our community through FOSS (Friends of Steephill School). This wonderful team organises a wide range of events throughout the year - from bake sales, quizzes, and fairs to Mother’s and Father’s Day celebrations, Black History Month activities and the much-loved summer inflatables day. Seasonal highlights such as the Halloween Disco, Christmas Parties and Easter Egg Hunts bring the whole school together in joyful celebration.

Strong Local and Wider Links

We are proud to maintain strong connections with local schools, St Mary's our parish church, nearby care homes, the Neighbourhood Watch team, our local MP and councillors. Steephill pupils also take part in community events such as the Fawkham and Hartley Fair, fostering a sense of pride and belonging in our local area.

As members of the Independent Schools Association (ISA), we extend our community connections even further - taking part in regional and national sporting, arts, and enrichment events that broaden horizons and celebrate excellence.
