Pastoral
-
Pastoral care is at the heart of our Steephill School. We believe children flourish when they feel safe, secure and valued, and our small-school ethos ensures that every pupil is known and supported as an individual.
Our provision ensure safeguarding and wellbeing underpin all that we do. Safeguarding is paramount. All staff receive regular training and work proactively to ensure that children feel secure, listened to and supported. Class teachers, supported by our pastoral and safeguarding teams, monitor pupils’ emotional and social development carefully, enabling early identification of need and timely support, including the use of Early Help where appropriate.
We actively promote a culture of kindness, respect and responsibility. Our restorative approach to behaviour supports children in understanding the impact of their actions, repairing relationships and developing empathy and self-regulation. Through PSHE, assemblies and dedicated events such as Anti-Bullying Week, pupils learn how to build positive relationships and stand up for themselves and others.
Pupil voice is an important part of school life. Through our School Council and Eco Council, children are encouraged to contribute to decision-making and develop leadership, confidence and a sense of social responsibility.
Online safety is embedded in our curriculum. Every computing lesson begins with a focus on digital safety, ensuring pupils understand how to navigate the online world responsibly and confidently.
We place great importance on transition. Whether moving between year groups or preparing for secondary education, pupils are carefully supported to ensure continuity, confidence and readiness for the next stage.
Strong partnerships with parents and carers are central to our approach. Through open communication and collaboration, we work together to ensure that every child thrives both academically and personally.
