Life opportunities
At Steephill, we believe that how a child spends their time and the opportunities they embrace will shape their future. Being well prepared for secondary school — whether independent, state selective, super-selective, or non-selective — is of paramount importance.
Academic preparation is at the heart of everything we do. We aim for every child to succeed at the school that is right for them and their family. We hold high expectations for our pupils because we know that when children are encouraged to strive for their best, they flourish. Our motivated families, who share this ethos, further support our pupils in achieving their full potential.
Our results speak for themselves. Each year, at least 70% of our Year 6 pupils gain a place at a Grammar School, and in recent years, several children have received scholarships to prestigious Independent Secondary Schools. [Please visit our results page for further information.]
Nurture and Wellbeing
At Steephill, we understand that a child’s wellbeing is just as important as academic success. We nurture emotional, social, and mental health alongside learning, helping pupils to develop resilience, confidence, and self-awareness. Our ultimate aim is for children to leave Steephill with a toolkit of skills and experiences that will enable them to thrive in life beyond school.
Enriching Experiences Beyond the Classroom
Life Opportunities go hand-in-hand with academic success. Experiencing the world enhances children’s understanding, vocabulary, and general knowledge, supporting skills such as inference in English, problem-solving in mathematics, and concept-building in science.
Beyond academics, these experiences build confidence, public speaking skills, curiosity, creativity, and resilience. Pupils gain knowledge of the arts, excel in sports, and develop the courage to ask questions and challenge themselves.
We nurture these skills through a wide range of opportunities:
-
Sports: Competing against other schools, national sports competitions, cross-country, and athletics tournaments.
-
The Arts: Local festivals and national competitions in singing, recorder, choir, choral speaking, reading, recitation, and musical theatre.
-
Cultural Experiences: Trips to museums, art galleries, and historic sites to broaden understanding and inspire curiosity.
In recent years, Steephill pupils have achieved national recognition in art, handwriting, cross-country, and athletics, demonstrating the lasting impact of a broad, nurturing, and enriching education.
