Spring Term 1

Week 5 (wc 5.2.18)

SCIENCE DAY FUN!!

Upper I had a lot of fun building towers with spaghetti and marshmallows.

Week 4 (wc 29.1.18)

This week the children have been looking at how houses have changed over time. The children got to look at artefacts that people would have used in the past and discussed reasons why these would have changed. They worked in groups to create posters comparing household items in different rooms.

In maths children continued to look at money problems. They looked at finding change from different amounts and finding the total by adding. This week the children had their first attempt at the 2x table challenge. I was really impressed with everyone's first try at this. This will now become a weekly test and each week I will send home the results so you can see how the children have got on.

It has been an exciting week in English ...  The children received a letter of complaint from Sid the Spider about the mess in the cloakroom. The children all wrote letters back apologising and telling Sid ways in which they will improve the mess.

Everyone worked really hard this week so they have a special treat :)

Upper I working hard on solving their maths problems.
Upper I looking at objects that float and sink ...

Week 3 (wc 22.1.18)

This week children have been learning about houses and homes around the world. They found out that some people live in tree houses, house boats, mud huts and their favourite igloos. The children learnt how igloos were made and had a go at making their own igloo using yummy marshmallows.

In English this week we have continued to look at adjectives. Children have been describing their senses using adjectives and created wonderful poems thinking about things they like to touch, smell, taste, feel and hear. A good effort by all.

In maths we have been exploring money. Children have been using their knowledge of tens and units to make different amounts. At home please continue to practice this by encouraging the children to count out amounts and making different totals.

We also had a quick look at co ordinates and children have enjoyed giving each other coordinates to find different items.

Children have been working hard in gymnastics. This term we are looking at body strength and encouraging the children to work on their balance and posture. The children worked in pairs and created some brilliant routines looking at different shapes .... (pictures to follow).

Week 2 (wc 15.1.18)

This week the children have been introduced to our new topic 'Houses and Homes'. We have looked at the different types of home that children live in - flats, terraced house, detached, semi detached and a few more. Children worked really hard on painting different houses to create a display to help us remember the different homes.

In maths we have been learning to add 10. This is something that we have all found a little tricky although we are getting more confident at this. We have learnt that they unit stays the same when adding 10 and just the tens column gets bigger. We will be practicing this more to help make this secure for everyone.

In English we have been looking at improving our vocabulary using amazing adjectives. Children have been reading the story 'Not a stick' and making this more exciting by adding more WOW adjectives and description. We also looked at the story 'Billy's Bucket' and created our own buckets and thought about what we would find inside.

Week 1 (wc 8.1.18)

Welcome back!

It sounds like everyone has had a wonderful time at Christmas and I have enjoyed hearing all about the incredible gifts that everyone got and the lovely trips that you have been on.

In maths this week we have been counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. We have started to look at our 2 and 10 times table and in a couple of weeks I will start to test children on these. Below is some links to help children practice these at home.
